Star Patrol
In this multidirectional space shooter game inspired by NAMCO's Bosconian from 1981, your goal is to rack up as many points as you can by taking out enemies and their bases. You control a ship that can move in eight different directions and can shoot both forward and backward at the same time. However, keyboard control using ARROW/WASD and CTRL is a bit awkward. BEST CONTROL you have with a GAMEPAD supporting 360-degree movement with a left thumbstick, so you can move in ANY direction. Throughout the game, your ship stays centered on the screen while it moves around. Each stage features several red enemy bases that you need to destroy in order to move on to the next stage. The number of bases increases with each round. Each base is protected by 6 cannon pods that look like globes, arranged in a hexagon around a central core. To take down a base, you can either hit the core 25 times or destroy all 6 cannons with 5 hits each, which earns you extra points. The core auto-collapses if the last shield pod falls. Keep in mind that the enemy bases will shoot back! You also need to dodge or destroy stationary asteroids and mines. Occasionally, a spy ship will show up, and you need to take it out; otherwise, the game's alert system will turn red. Since finding and destroying the enemy bases is the main goal, there's a radar to help you locate them, so you won't get lost.
